The Ontario Line is a new rapid transit line that will run through Toronto. Webuild鈥檚 joint venture with Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada (FCC Canada) will develop and build the 鈥楶ape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS)鈥� section of the line.

The PTUS contract provides for the design, construction, supply and operation of three kilometres of twin tunnels, two underground stations, the interface with Toronto Transit Commission鈥檚 Line 2 subway and related works.

It will be executed as a 鈥楶rogressive Design-Build鈥�. The final value of the contract will be determined by the detailed design, included in the contract.

The contract model involves collaboration between the client, contractor, and designer, meaning lower execution risks in the start-up and construction phases of the project.

The new Ontario Line will extend 15.6 kilometres with 15 stations, six intermodal hubs and more than 40 connections with existing subway, streetcar, light-rail transit and regional rail lines and bus services.

Its construction comes as the population of Toronto is expected to increase from six million citizens now to over eight million by 2030.

Webuild is already implementing, with the Connect 6ix consortium, the 鈥淩olling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM)鈥� package of works for the Ontario Line, which includes designing and implementing signalling, communication, and safety systems, supplying rolling stock, and carrying out the line鈥檚 operation and maintenance.
