Strabag Rail is a subsidiary of Austria-based construction firm Strabag, and Eurovia is a Czech Republic-based infrastructure construction subsidiary of Vinci, a France-based concessions and construction company.

The work, co-financed by the European Union, forms part of the country and region鈥檚 long-term push to upgrade its rail infrastructure to support high-speed operations, reduce travel times and increase transcontinental rail access.

The first project involves upgrading a nearly 10km section of the Brno鈥揚艡erov corridor between Nezamyslice and Kojet铆n, adding a second track and enabling high-speed operations. Strabag Rail is listed as the lead contractor.

Key elements include installation of a new 744m twin-track tunnel near N臎m膷ice, a newly built junction at Hru拧ka to improve operational flexibility, and modernisation of two stations 鈥� M臎rovice nad Hanou and N臎m膷ice nad Hanou 鈥� the latter relocated and expanded. The project also includes new reinforced concrete and composite bridges, 2.3km of noise barriers, and installation of new train control systems.

Construction began in May 2025 and is expected to finish in January 2029.

The second contract covers the complete overhaul of the high-traffic 膶esk谩 T艡ebov谩 rail junction, one of the 鈥榣argest鈥� and 鈥榤ost complex鈥� rail infrastructure upgrades in the country to date. The project includes renewal of 72km of track, replacement of all overhead lines and upgrades to 30 bridge structures. All passenger platforms will be made barrier-free and fitted with new canopies, and a new steel pedestrian bridge will replace the existing underpass to connect both sides of the city. Eurovia is the lead contractor.

Preparatory works are set for 2025, with main construction to begin in 2028. Completion is expected by early 2032.

Alfred Watzl, a member of Strabag鈥檚 management board, said, 鈥淏oth play a strategic role in creating a modern, sustainable Czech railway infrastructure and in linking it to the trans-European transport network.鈥�

Strabag said its combined share of the two contracts amounts to approximately 鈧�354 million (US$414 million). Eurovia is said to hold a 34% share of the 膶esk谩 T艡ebov谩 contract, but the firm鈥檚 share value for Brno鈥揚艡erov was not available.
