Infrastructure projects boost China鈥檚 biggest construction company but residential orders falter
28 March 2025

China鈥檚 largest construction company, China State Construction (CSCEC) has reported a 4.8% year-on-year increase in new contracts in January-February 2025.
The business, which ranks among the largest construction companies in the world, signed new contracts worth CNY 680.8 billion over the period (US$93.8 billion), according to a company update.
That was driven by a sharp 30.8% rise in newly signed infrastructure contracts, worth CNY 231.7 billion (US$31.9 billion).
But newly signed construction contracts dropped 4.9% to CNY 447.2 billion (US$61.6 billion), reflecting the ongoing difficulties in China鈥檚 residential construction market.
CSCEC鈥檚 survey and design services business also saw a decline in new orders of 6.2%, to CNY 1.9 billion (US$261.5 million).
The majority of the new orders were in the domestic market, while CNY 25.1 billion worth of contracts (US$3.5 billion) were signed in overseas markets.
