Engineering consultants Rejlers and Aecom have won a contract from the Swedish Transport Administration to develop the North Bothnia Line. The collaboration involves creating railway plans and public road designs within Piteå Municipality, both north and south of the Piteå urban area in Sweden.

The North Bothnia Line will span 270 kilometres, connecting Umeå and Luleå. The project aims to enhance transportation efficiency and sustainability while supporting urban development and improving the competitiveness of businesses throughout Sweden.
As part of their responsibilities, Rejlers and Aecom will produce line studies, develop railway plans that include environmental impact assessments, and manage essential permits and preparations for future construction.
Henrik Öhrnell, head of division infrastructure at Rejlers, said, “It is always satisfying to see a team effort bear fruit. Our collaboration with Aecom is now being further developed and we look forward to developing the North Bothnia Line together for a couple of years with a focus on sustainable solutions and long-term societal benefits.
“We are now given the opportunity to continue developing our collaboration with Trafikverket and further contribute to creating long-term sustainable infrastructure solutions. This is an important strategic milestone in our continued growth in the Swedish market, and we look forward to developing the North Botnia Line together with Rejlers and our other partners, creating better conditions for transportation along the Norrland coast, added, Martin Ålenius, business development manager at Aecom in Sweden.
