Test event for Everton鈥檚 new stadium ahead of Goodison Park demolition

England鈥檚 Everton Football Club has welcomed 10,000 fans for a test event, after contractors handed over the 52,888-seater arena in Liverpool late last year.
Contractor Laing O鈥橰ourke started construction of the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium in 2021, at a cost of close to 拢800 million (US$1 billion). It handed it over to Everton executive chairman Marc Watts and interim CEO Colin Chong ahead of schedule on 19 December 2024.
The project transformed a dockyard built in 1848 into a new stadium, which involved gradually infilling the dockyard with 480,000 cubic metres of sand as well as the repair and preservation of the Grade II-listed dock wall.
Laing O鈥橰ourke used modern methods of construction to produce walls, columns, and lattice planks at an off-site facility. Laing O鈥橰ourke subsidiary Crown House Technologies also manufactured MEP modules and toilets off-site.
The test event welcomed 10,000 fans for an under-18 friendly match against Wigan Athletic.
The Premier League club will leave Goodison Park, its home since 1892, at the end of this season.
The stadium will then be demolished with the land set to be redeveloped into a mixed-use scheme with housing and offices.
