NBA team鈥檚 US$1bn arena project gets construction contractors
21 March 2025
The City of Oklahoma City (OKC), Oklahoma, US, selected a joint venture between US-based firms Mortenson and Flintco to lead construction of its new downtown professional basketball arena, which will serve as the future home of the National Basketball Association鈥檚 (NBA) Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mortenson and Flintco were chosen from a shortlist of three prequalified firms. The city noted it plans to finalise the contract and project budget in the coming months.
Details of the design, construction timeline, and development team are expected soon, with the new arena will span 750,000 sq ft and seat around 18,000 fans.
Mortenson and Flintco previously collaborated on the BOK Center (a multi-purpose sporting arena) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mortenson also brings experience from high-profile sports venue builds, including Chase Center in San Francisco (for the NBA鈥檚 Golden State Warriors) and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (for the National Football League鈥檚 Las Vegas Raiders).
The estimated US$900-million OKC arena is scheduled to open before the start of the 2029-2030 NBA season.
