03 June 2024

Swedish contractor Skanska is to build the new Lokomotion Technology Centre for industrial manufacturer Metso in Lahdesj盲rvi, Tampere, Finland.
Skanska won a 鈧99 million (US$107.3 million) deal to construct phase one of the technology centre, which includes infrastructure and buildings totalling 34,000 sq m.
The factory will design, test, and manufacture technologies, equipment and components for the production of aggregates and sand.
While the first phase covers 34,000 sq m, the entire facility will eventually take up 66,000 sq m.
Construction of the first phase, which involves a 鈧150 million (US$162.5 million) investment from Metso, will begin in July and will be completed in the third quarter of 2027.
Production of Metso鈥檚 Lokotrack track-mounted crushing plants will begin once the first phase is complete.
Metso鈥檚 current site, Lokomo, focused on the aggregates business, is located in Hatanp盲盲, Tampere. Metso owns Lokomo鈥檚 approximately 17 hectares of land and buildings. The company intends to move all Metso鈥檚 Lokomo activities in a phased approach to the new technology centre in Lahdesj盲rvi, and then to close down and leave the Hatanp盲盲 site and buildings.
