New battery tech to be added to welfare units
07 September 2022
Energy storage specialist LiNa Energy and site equipment provider Garic have partnered up to explore the use of solid-state sodium battery technology in temporary accommodation units.

The two United Kingdom-based companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a feasibility study, that will see them incorporate LiNa鈥檚 battery cells and modules into Garic鈥檚 Eco Line of welfare units.
Mark Albiston, CEO of Garic, said: 鈥淪ustainability and driving new eco innovations is part of our DNA so we鈥檙e pleased to be forging this partnership with LiNa, an expert innovator in their own field.
鈥淭heir values are closely aligned to our own and with the direction our company, and the whole industry is travelling, this is a really exciting opportunity to make a big difference.鈥
As part of the feasibility study, LiNa and Garic will co-test, demonstrate and trial the power technology in the temporary welfare units, to validate the solution鈥檚 future-shaping potential and commercial viability.
According to LiNa, their collaboration is also a way in which both firms can contribute to the decarbonisation of the construction sector.
鈥淭he deployment of LiNa Energy鈥檚 sodium-based batteries can support construction in reaching its net-zero goals, a challenging task given the industry鈥檚 multi-faceted nature,鈥 the company said.
鈥淔ree from harmful materials such as lithium and cobalt, the solution offers a cleaner, safer and lower cost alternative to lithium-ion batteries.鈥
Mark Albiston, CEO of Garic, added: 鈥淪ustainability and driving new eco innovations is part of our DNA so we鈥檙e pleased to be forging this partnership with LiNa, an expert innovator in their own field.
鈥淭heir values are closely aligned to our own and with the direction our company, and the whole industry is travelling, this is a really exciting opportunity to make a big difference.鈥
