Compressor manufacturer Kaeser Kompressoren is showing a “study of a battery powered portable compressor at Intermat to promote discussion on electrification.

The M50B looks like an ordinary compressor, but is powered by a 300kg battery, allowing it to run cable-free.

The machine is based on the most prevalent worldwide compressor size of 5.2 m³/min (185 cfm), with working pressures between 6 and 14 bar.

The German OEM said the unit had been designed to provide enough power for a typical working day, based on telematics data from comparable diesel models working worldwide.

Kaeser said it wanted to introduce potential users to the option of cable-free e-power “and investigate the need and customer requirements of the industry.

“Where might users imagine operating a battery-powered system, and to which applications would it be suited? What level of battery power would be desirable, and/or would a hybrid solution make sense?, said the company.

“With the answers to these questions, operators can take part in actively shaping the future of portable compressors.

Meanwhile, the company is also showcasing its new M44 compressor, a prototype machine that it expects to enter production by the end of the year.

The 750kg unit is fitted with a Stage V Kubota engine and is designed for the European market.

The company said it enables users to “utilise more air with less use of energyâ€ while offering a smaller, cheaper unit that provides improved efficiency.
