Unicontrol launches 2D machine control system for SMEs
23 January 2025
Unicontrol has unveiled its new 2D machine control system, Unicontrol2D, aiming to provide an accessible entry point for small to medium-sized construction companies looking to adopt digital tools in earthmoving operations.

The company says that the system, designed to simplify precision excavation, offers an affordable alternative to 3D machine control, which is often perceived as costly and complex for smaller businesses.
Following its acquisition by Spectra Precision, a company specialising in laser positioning systems, Unicontrol has integrated Spectra Precision鈥檚 laser technology into its offering.
The 2D system works with laser receivers and provides real-time feedback to achieve precision, with an accuracy of 卤2 mm. Features such as real-time guidance, remote diagnostics, updates, and built-in cut/fill displays enable contractors to achieve accurate depth and slope on site, says Unicontrol.
The system also includes a pathway to scalability, allowing users to upgrade to 3D machine control as business needs evolve. By adding GNSS antennas, contractors are said to be able to transition to more advanced technology without overhauling their existing system.
Unicontrol and Spectra Precision highlight that while 3D systems are prominent in the construction sector, a cost-effective 2D solution addresses the specific challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises.
