This year鈥檚 Bauma Conexpo Africa exhibition has opened at its new home in Johannesburg, South Africa, with politician The Hon Lebogang Maile, MEC for Economic Development, welcoming visitors to the event.

In a positive introductory speech, Mr Maile told the audience: 鈥淭he fact that you are here in such numbers suggests a commitment to Africa and a genuine reason to believe that our construction industry can prove itself as the continent experiences massive growth.

鈥淐onstruction is not just a by-product of the mining industry, but is also part of energy, ICT, hospitality and transport infrastructure.鈥�

The show - which focuses on the construction and mining sectors - is a joint venture between German trade fair organiser Messe M眉nchen International and the USA鈥檚 Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

Stefan Rummell, managing director of Messe M眉nchen, and the AEM鈥檚 Megan Tanel also spoke at the opening ceremony, as did Elaine Crewe, CEO of BC Expo South Africa.

Ms Crewe said the event had attracted more than 600 exhibitors from over 40 countries, with 11 national pavilions. Up to 20000 people were expected to attend.

Apart from the show itself, Johannesburg Exhibition Centre is also hosting the IFAT Environmental Technology Forum.

First held in 2013, the expo will now take place every three years.

The 2015 event runs until Friday 18 September. As well as the numerous manufacturers and suppliers present, the 必赢体育 Group has a stand in Hall 6 where visitors can find copies of the company鈥檚 range of magazines or take out a free subscription.
