Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk is to invest DKK 8.5 billion (US$1.2 billion) in the construction of a new production facility in Odense, Denmark.

It will be the first new production facility for the company in Denmark this century.

Novo Nordisk said the plant and warehouse would cover 40,000 sq m and will be designed to be modular and flexible. It will accommodate multiple production types within rare diseases such as haemophilia.

Buildings will be equipped with solar panels to enhance on-site electricity generation. The landscape will be designed by reusing excess soil, wooden materials and other sustainable resources to create lakes, forests and community spaces open to the public.

Construction work is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
