Norway selects road builder for new US$440mn Arctic highway
23 May 2025
Sweden-based Skanska signed a contract with the Norwegian Road Authority to build a new 21.5km section of the E6 highway between Sommerset and Megården in Nordland County, Norway, located north of Bodø in the Arctic Circle.

The contract is valued at SEK 4.2 billion (US$440 million) and will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for Q2 2025.
The project includes construction of three tunnels totalling 13.8km, new open road reaching 6.9km, three bridges, and multiple smaller structures. The scheme forms the first phase of the broader $1.4 billion E6 Megården–Mørsvikbotn corridor project.
Skanska said the project will be certified to BREEAM Infrastructure design and construction standards.
Engineering work and construction are set to start in May 2025 with completion expected in summer 2031.
