Granite Construction has won the first border wall construction contract of US President Trump鈥檚 second term in office.

The contractor will build seven miles of new border wall in Hidalgo County, Texas, within the US Border Patrol鈥檚 Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector, as part of a deal worth US$70.3 million.

The US Customs and Border Protection agency said the work would close 鈥渃ritical openings鈥 in the wall, after contracts for its construction were cancelled under the Biden administration.

The work comes as US Customs and Border Protection implements two Trump executive orders titled 鈥淪ecuring our Borders鈥 and 鈥淒eclaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border of the United States鈥, which direct the Department of Homeland Security to construction physical barriers to 鈥渆nsure complete operational control of the southern border of the United States鈥.
