07 November 2024

A consortium headed by French construction company Eiffage has won a deal to design, build, operate and maintain a huge new university and hospital campus north of the centre of Paris.
Eiffage Construction will serve as lead contractor on the Grand Paris Nord campus project in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, in what the company said was one of the largest national public investments of the decade.
The project, thought to be worth around 鈧1.3 billion, also involves architects PCA-Stream and Michel R茅mon & Associ茅s, and the design consultants Ing茅rop, WSP and OASIIS.
The new university and hospital campus will accommodate teaching, research and medical care activities, making it a flagship hub for the 脦le-de-France region.
Awarded by Paris-Cit茅 university, the university project, covering almost 77,000 sq m , will include four buildings dedicated to teaching, research, amphitheatres and a convention centre.
It will also incorporate imaging and simulation suites for medical, dental and nursing research and training.
A huge 4,000 sq m central garden will be created to encourage social interaction and provide a pleasant environment for all site users.
This project has ambitious environmental goals, targeting HQE 鈥渉ighly performing鈥 certification and the E3C1 label, with the use of renewable energies, planted roof spaces and reused materials.
Design is expected to take 17 months, with construction work beginning in spring 2026 and taking 40 months to complete.
Eiffage Construction will carry out the works on a general contracting basis. Full delivery of the university hub is expected in the third quarter of 2029. Teams from Eiffage Services will be taking on the operation and maintenance of the campus for a 12-year period.
