Around 80,000 visitors attended last week鈥檚 Buama China exhibition in Shanghai. It was a reduction of 62% from the 212,500 in 2018, but organiser Messe M眉nchen said it was a positive outcome given the pandemic.

The show was severely impacted by Covid-19, which prevented travellers from outside of China from attending and also curtailed domestic visitors. A small outbreak in Shanghai in the days before the show would also have been a deterrant .

However, Terex said the show 鈥渆xceeded our expectations鈥� and Volvo CE said the event was one that OEMs 鈥渄o not want to miss鈥�.

Despite the reduced scale, it was still the largest construction show staged since the onset of the pandemic. It attracted 2,867 exhibitors, a 15% reduction on 2018.

Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe M眉nchen GmbH, said he was satisfied with the result; 鈥淭he year 2020 was marked by special challenges. But the construction machinery industry and its economy continue to grow while the effects of the epidemic are being warded off鈥�Hand-in-hand with our partners we therefore made everything possible and provided the industry with a platform even in times of crisis.鈥�

In addition to China鈥檚 major suppliers, the show attracted international exhibitors such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Bauer and Terex.

The next Bauma China will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from November 22 to 25, 2022.
