Dynapac and Leica Geosystems launch automated steering and screed edge control for asphalt pavers

Leica Geosystems, a part of Hexagon, and Dynapac, a supplier of asphalt rollers and pavers, have announced that their products will now be compatible with auto-steering and screed edge control features.

The integration is specifically designed for Dynapac鈥檚 SD25 and XD25 Highway Paver series, which are set to debut at Bauma in Munich, Germany.

The new auto-steering and edge control features will allow the pavers to follow stringline design models with millimetre accuracy. The advancement eliminates the need for traditional strings-and-pins methods, leading to reduced costs and improved productivity.

With the Leica iCON pave machine control system, operators benefit from automated guidance and precise screed width adjustments based on a digital stringing design.

The system enhances site sustainability by optimising material usage, minimising waste and ensuring more accurate material estimation throughout the paving process. Moreover, it enhances safety by eliminating physical hazards such as stringlines, pins and other marking materials from the job site.

鈥淎s infrastructure projects continue to expand globally, meeting the high standards of modern construction requires even greater precision and efficiency in asphalt paving,鈥 said Neil Williams, president of the machine control division at Leica Geosystems.

鈥淢anually steering a paver while ensuring the screed maintains its optimal width demands constant adjustments to adapt to varying site conditions and maintain consistency. By introducing automated steering and screed control, we alleviate this burden on operators and enhance their ability to deliver superior paving results with greater ease and reliability.鈥
