Saipem and Trevi collaborate on offshore drilling projects
16 June 2022
Italy-based Saipem has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with underground engineering specialist Trevi, which will see the companies design drilling systems for offshore wind farm projects.

The energy giant will work alongside its Italian counterpart to develope two systems for drilling large diameter holes for wind foundation piles - the process of which is 鈥渆ssential鈥 to ensuring the successful installation of offshore facilities.
The designs will take into account site specific geotechnical and geophysical data to ensure that the most appropriate technology and strategy is used depending on the locations to be drilled.
The agreement, which also covers the possibility of developing drilling equipment, will support Saipem鈥檚 goal of identifying 鈥渘ew and more profitable ways鈥 to execute projects by 鈥渄esigning and developing new technical solutions鈥.
The MoU is the latest signed by Milan-based Siapem. Earlier this year the company announced that they are to collaborate with steel manufacturer Tenaris and the chemical consortium SIAD to study the feasibility of a CO2 capture and utilisation project in Italy.
It also follows a non-binding agreement signed with Havfram to evaluate a potential cooperation in the offshore wind business, that is 鈥渃onsistent with Saipem鈥檚 2022-25 Strategic Plan,鈥 which aims to strengthen the company鈥檚 value proposition for the offshore wind market.
