Minnich鈥檚 revolutionary drill
06 May 2009
Minnich successfully tested its revolutionary new A-5SCW wireless remote controlled dowel pin drilling rig in January. In association with Kar-Tech of Wisconsin, US, Minnich developed the machine over the winter following concept discussions at Conexpo Russia last September.
The short, lightweight A-5SCW features auto-crab, a quick change depth adjuster and auto controls as standard. Furthermore, remote operation allows the operator to stand in the grade, meaning he's out of harm's way from jobsite and commuter traffic.
Drill alignment is through the use of a pointer. "The alignment system is great," said Dan Oudera, general superintendent with Head Inc, test partners. "It allows you to move along the slab and continue drilling. The operator is in a better location to position the drill more accurately and keep an eye on the hammers themselves.
"The operator has a better view of the individual drills and can make quick and easy adjustments if there is any hang up," continued Mr Oudera. "The remote operation also enables the operator to step away from dust and noise, which is a major step forwards."
