The Blue Circle and Royal Group to develop 鈥榝irst wind project鈥 in Cambodia
30 January 2024
The Blue Circle, a renewable energy developer based in Singapore, and Cambodian conglomerate Royal Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together on a 100-MW wind project in the eastern province of Mondulkiri, about 280 km from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

The project will involve the development, financing, building, owning and operating of the wind farm.
Based on the average wind speed recorded, the project鈥檚 site is considered 鈥渙ne of the top wind sites in Cambodia and in all of Southeast Asia,鈥 said The Blue Circle.
鈥淭he particular wind pattern in this part of the lower Mekong region would drive potential power production mainly during the dry season, from November to April.鈥
鈥淭his seasonal monsoon particularity would ideally supplement hydro power production which represents more than 45% of the energy mix in Cambodia and is providing power mainly during the wet season, from May to October,鈥 added The Blue Circle.
Through this new partnership, The Blue Circle and Royal Group aim to contribute to Cambodia鈥檚 2050 carbon neutrality target, as set by the Ministry of Environment in 2022.
