Contractor selected for AU$5bn Australian airport expansion
19 February 2025
US-based Bechtel a global engineering, construction and project management company said it was chosen for the AU$5 billion (US$3.2 billion) Perth Airport development project, which is one of the country’s ‘largest airport expansions.

The scheme seeks to increase the size of the terminal facilities, introduce a new parallel runway, and add the airport’s first hotel, along with two multi-storey car parks.
Bechtel will serve as a capital portfolio partner on the build, “working side-by-side with Perth Airport to support the delivery of multiple major projects in its capital expansion program, all within a live operating airport, Bechtel said.
“The team will provide specialist advice on a comprehensive structure to manage the program and establish the critical tools and processes necessary to integrate projects and set works up for success.
Perth is the only airport in Australia that offers direct flights to Europe. The expansion is expected to accommodate increased travel through the hub, as passenger figures are expected to climb from 16 million to 20 million by 2030.
Construction is underway with the new runway expected to open in 2028. The airport’s new terminal is scheduled for a 2031 completion.
