The UK government has given the go-ahead to the expansion of London Luton Airport, including the construction of a new terminal.

London Luton Airport said that it hoped to expand capacity to 32 million passengers by 2043 as a result of the project.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander approved the proposals despite the fact that the Planning Inspectorate recommended they should be rejected due to environmental concerns.

Aside from the new terminal, other work is expected to involve the construction of new taxiways, as well as new parking areas.
